Protective Eyewear for Squash and Racketball

Dear [[firstname]]

The committee would like to take this opportunity to raise the awareness of protective eyewear for Squash and Racketball especially as our court usage increases in particular with doubles and our Junior players (U18s) playing more.

Eyewear
While eye injuries are rare in squash and squash 57 (Racketball), England Squash strongly recommends the wearing of protective eyewear on court for all players and coaches. This particularly applies when playing doubles and in junior squash, where eye protection is mandatory in competition.
Look for the British Standard BS7930.1 Squash on any eyewear you purchase to ensure the right quality.

Is eye protection compulsory for all junior squash?

Approved eye protection must be worn by all junior players at all England Squash competitions and activities including when participating in the adult age group. In addition, England Squash highly recommend that juniors wear eye protection whenever on court.

As a committee we are using this opportunity to raise awareness on this matter. All coaches at the club will be ensuring any junior players involved in Squash or Racketball will be wearing protective eyewear during sessions and encourage them/their parents to ensure this when playing outside of coaching including in the box leagues.

As for doubles we strongly recommend, in line with England Squash and the World Squash Federation, that players wear eye protection.

The committee are NOT enforcing this as a rule and players choosing to not use protective eyewear do so by choice.

We will be looking to have some available to buy from the club bar or contact Chris Gorman directly for some from Karakal.

Kind regards

The Committee
